D minor is a key of the tonal family minor, built on the root d. The key of D minor is written in musical notation with a ♭. The corresponding scale and the fundamental chord of this key (the tonic D-F-A) are also designated with the term D minor.
D minor is traditionally considered by many to be a serious key, one associated with the afterlife, but see the article on key signature.
