Overview
Marianne Elisabeth "Nanne" Nordqvist Grönvall (born 18 May 1962 in Stockholm) is a Swedish artist best known as a singer and songwriter. She has built a varied career that spans pop recordings, stage musicals, radio presenting and songwriting for national song competitions. Nanne is married to Peter Grönvall, who is the son of ABBA member Benny Andersson. She has repeatedly appeared in Sweden's Eurovision selection and achieved success both with bands and as a solo artist.
Early career and Melodifestivalen
Nanne's early public profile grew in the 1980s with the group Sound of Music. The trio competed in Sweden's national selection, Melodifestivalen, more than once and placed strongly. Over time she became a familiar face in the Swedish contest circuit, appearing as a performer and later as a songwriter and composer. Her long association with the national selection has made her one of the contest's most recognizable contributors.
Group success and international exposure
She was a founding member of the group One More Time, which won the Swedish selection on one occasion and went on to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing among the top placings in the international final. The group enjoyed broader European attention in the 1990s through album releases and radio play. One of their songs was later recorded by Ritchie Blackmore's project Blackmore's Night, illustrating how material she helped create reached artists in other genres.
Songwriting and notable works
Alongside performing, Nanne established herself as a songwriter. She co-wrote songs that reached the finals of national song competitions and penned entries that became popular through radio and television exposure. A prominent composition she is associated with is the ballad that became a hit for another Swedish artist and placed highly in national rankings. Her writing credits span pop and more theatrical numbers, reflecting work for studio recordings as well as stage productions.
Theatre, radio and live performance
Outside of recording and song contests, Nanne has worked extensively in theatre and musical productions, taking leading roles such as the title character in the musical Sweet Charity and performing in touring productions. She has hosted and presented several radio programs, including her own radio talk show, and has headlined concert tours across Sweden, with special runs in the major cities of Stockholm and Gothenburg.
Legacy and distinctions
Nanne is especially noted for her long-standing participation in Sweden's song-selection scene: she has entered the national competition many times as a singer and songwriter, helping shape the modern Melodifestivalen repertoire. Her career demonstrates a blend of pop sensibility and theatrical presentation, and she remains a respected figure among performers, composers and fans of Scandinavian popular music. Her versatility—crossing radio, stage and recording—has sustained her profile across decades.
