Arthur Gordon Linkletter (born July 17, 1912; died May 26, 2010) was a Canadian-born American broadcaster who became well known on both radio and television. He was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Sources give his birth name as Arthur Gordon Kelly (sometimes recorded as Gordon Arthur Kelley). Linkletter became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1942.
Broadcasting career
Linkletter achieved national recognition as the host of the long-running programs House Party and People Are Funny. Both shows aired on NBC in radio and television formats; together they kept him in the public eye for about nineteen years. He was especially noted for segments that showcased the spontaneous remarks of children, which became one of his signature features.
Personal life and death
Linkletter lived much of his adult life in the United States and remained active in public appearances and broadcasting into his later years. He died in Los Angeles, California on May 26, 2010, at the age of 97. Reports indicate the cause was complications related to a stroke.
