History and renovation

Originally built in the early 1980s, BC Place gained recognition for its then-innovative enclosed design. A comprehensive redevelopment in the late 2000s and early 2010s replaced the original roof system with a modern, durable covering and improved the concourses, entrances and services to meet contemporary standards. This renewal helped the stadium attract international sporting events and modern concerts.

Tenants and regular events

The venue is the regular home of the BC Lions, a team in the Canadian Football League, and hosts Vancouver Whitecaps FC, which competes in Major League Soccer. Beyond league fixtures, BC Place stages domestic championship games, exhibition matches and club-level tournaments, and it is a preferred location for large concerts and civic ceremonies.
