Overview

Suharno (1 October 1959 – 19 August 2015) was an Indonesian professional footballer who later became a coach. Best known for his long association with Indonesian club football, he spent twelve years as a player before moving into coaching. In the final years of his career he was associated with Arema Cronus, one of Indonesia's prominent clubs.

Playing career

Suharno began his senior playing career at PS Banteng and finished his time as a player after three seasons with Niac Mitra. Over roughly a dozen years on the field he experienced the domestic league environment of Indonesia and developed the tactical understanding that would later inform his coaching work.

Coaching career

He started coaching in 1988 as a player-assistant coach at Niac Mitra, transitioning from playing to a mentoring role while still registered as a player. Over the following decades he held a range of coaching and managerial roles at club level, working with senior squads and helping to develop younger players in professional settings. In November 2013 he was appointed manager of Arema Cronus and led the club during the subsequent seasons.
