Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is a kart-racing video game developed by Sumo Digital and published by Sega. It brings together characters, vehicles and settings from a variety of Sega franchises and offers both single-player and multiplayer modes with power-ups and character-specific special moves.

Platforms

The title was released for home consoles and PC. Available platforms include the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, the Wii and Windows PC. A separate portable version for the Nintendo DS was planned during development but was cancelled before release.

Release

The game first appeared in North America on February 23, 2010, and reached European markets a few days later on February 26, 2010. The Wii edition of the game is also playable on the Wii when that software runs on Nintendo's later hardware in Wii mode, and the Wii version can be used on the Wii U through the console's backward‑compatibility.

Development and legacy

Sumo Digital created the game as a celebration of Sega's characters and history, combining arcade-style racing with franchise-themed tracks. The title led to further entries in the series and remains noted for its crossover roster and accessible racing mechanics.
