Geography and administration

Scuol sits in the district of Inn and forms a central node in the Unterengadin valley. History and municipal merger

The present municipality expanded through a merger that took effect on 1 January 2015 when several neighbouring communes were combined with Scuol. The following former municipalities became part of Scuol:

• Ftan
• Sent

This consolidation aimed to coordinate services and tourism promotion across the Unterengadin valley and to sustain public infrastructure in a sparsely populated alpine area.

Scuol has a long-standing reputation as a spa town with thermal baths and health-oriented facilities that attract visitors year-round. The population is culturally rooted in the Engadine and includes speakers of Romansh (Putèr) alongside German.
