Geography and environment

Seaford occupies a position at the edge of the South Downs where cliffs and headlands meet the coast. Seaford Head, an area of chalk downland, and adjacent nature reserves support coastal grassland and seabird habitats. The shoreline is predominantly shingle with defensive structures and promenades that have been developed to manage coastal erosion and provide public access.

History and development

The town grew from a small fishing and trading settlement into a Victorian-era seaside resort, with promenades and visitor facilities added during the nineteenth century.
