Playing career and clubs

Svoboda spent most of his club career in the Czech Extraliga but also had significant spells in other countries. His role was that of a goaltender — the last line of defense for his teams — and he played for several well-known clubs. Notable teams in his career include:

Adam Svoboda died on 7 May 2019 in Pardubice. Reports indicate his death was by hanging; the circumstances were widely covered in Czech media and prompted public discussion about mental health in sport (reports). He is remembered by teammates, clubs and fans for his on-ice accomplishments and for his role in Czech hockey. Local commemorations took place in Pardubice and other hockey communities.
