Raghbir Singh Bhola (21 August 1927 – 22 January 2019) was a prominent Indian field hockey player and a career officer in the Indian Air Force. Born in Multan (Multan), which is now part of Pakistan, Bhola combined military service with international sport and became part of India's successful mid‑20th century hockey tradition.

Sporting career

Bhola represented India at two Olympic Games. He was a member of the squad that won the gold medal at the Melbourne 1956 Olympics, and four years later he helped the team secure a silver medal at the Rome 1960 Olympics. His international appearances came at a time when India was one of the dominant teams in world field hockey.

Military service and life away from sport

Alongside his athletic achievements, Bhola served as an officer in the Indian Air Force. His dual role as serviceman and sportsman reflected a common pattern in that era, when armed forces often supported elite athletes and provided the structure for training and competition. Details of his rank and postings are part of his public record within defence and sporting histories.

Later years and death

After retiring from active sport and service, Bhola remained a respected figure in Indian hockey circles. He died on 22 January 2019 in New Delhi from complications of multiple organ failure at the age of 91. His passing was noted by the national sporting community and by veterans of Indian field hockey.
