Playaz Circle
Playaz Circle is an American hip-hop duo formed in College Park, Georgia in 1997. It consists of Tity Boi and Dolla Boy. They are part of the Disturbing Tha Peace collective and record label of the same name, and are considered representatives of Down South and gangsta rap.
Climate
Tity Boi and Dolla Boy became friends in their high school days. As a result, they formed the group Playaz Circle in 1997 and began releasing mixtapes. During this time, Ludacris moved into their neighborhood and began collaborating with them. However, while the latter soon became one of rap's most successful artists, Playaz Circle's career stalled as Dolla Boy was sentenced to prison and Tity Boi was shot. Ludacris, however, offered them both a spot on both his Disturbing-Tha-Peace collective and the eponymous label. They accepted the offer and recorded the song Play Pen To The State Pen, which appeared on Disturbing Tha Peace's first album, Golden Grain. However, the executives of the label, which had a partnership with Def Jam, did not want to release any of their music. Therefore, they continued to work on albums and mixtapes that they sold themselves directly on the street and tried to pass their music to DJs in Atlanta with the goal of getting it played in clubs. They eventually found success with the single Duffle Bag Boy, whose chorus was taken by Lil Wayne. It led to the label now greenlighting the release of their debut album Supply & Demand, which was already completed. It was released in 2007, followed two years later by Flight 360: The Takeoff.
