Pate's Grammar School is a selective secondary school located in Gloucestershire, England. It operates as a grammar school, admitting pupils on the basis of academic selection through the grammar school system.
History
The school traces its origins to 1574 when it was founded by the benefactor Richard Pate. Over the centuries it has undergone several reorganisations. In 1986 the single-sex Pate's Grammar School for Girls and Cheltenham Grammar School for Boys were combined to form the current mixed school.
Reputation and performance
Pate's has been recognised for strong academic results; in 2013 The Times placed it among the top state secondary schools in the United Kingdom, ranking it fourth that year. Such league-table positions reflect examination outcomes and other performance measures used at the time.
