Paranaguá — city and port

Paranaguá is a coastal municipality in the state of Paraná in southern Brazil. It was founded in 1648 and is often cited as the oldest city in the state. The municipality has a population of about 148,000 and covers roughly 827 km²; the population figure was recorded in January 2006.

The city is best known for its port infrastructure. Paranaguá serves as the main sea port that handles cargo for the wider Curitiba region, including the state capital Curitiba.

The Port of Paranaguá is one of Brazil's largest maritime terminals and a major export hub for agricultural commodities. It is recognised as a leading grain handling facility in Latin America, with port operations and terminals covering an area of about 13 km².
