Óscar Julio Vian Morales S.D.B. (18 October 1947 – 24 February 2018) was a Guatemalan Roman Catholic prelate and member of the Salesians of Don Bosco. He served in senior diocesan roles in Guatemala, most prominently as Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Guatemala, a position he held from his papal appointment in 2010 until his death in 2018.

Early life and religious formation

Born in Guatemala City, Vian Morales entered the Salesian order, which emphasizes education and pastoral work with young people. As a Salesian priest he followed the congregation’s focus on catechesis, vocational training and parish ministry, preparing him for leadership roles within the local church.

Episcopal ministry and appointments

After years of priestly service he was named to the episcopate and eventually became the ordinary of a major western Guatemalan see. He was installed as Archbishop of Los Altos on 17 April 2007.
