National Super Alliance (NASA) — Kenyan opposition coalition

Composition and organization

NASA brought together several established parties and political groupings. Member parties included, among others:

• Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)
• Wiper Democratic Movement
• Forum for the Restoration of Democracy–Kenya (FORD–Kenya)
• Amani National Congress (ANC)
• National Rainbow Coalition and other smaller formations

The alliance operated through a coordination secretariat and a pre-election agreement that designated roles, campaign strategy, and a joint flagbearer. It emphasized coalition unity while allowing member parties to retain separate identities and parliamentary candidates.

NASA was announced in January 2017 in the lead-up to that year’s general election. Its public face for the presidential contest was veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, with Kalonzo Musyoka selected as his running mate. In the 2017 presidential contest NASA’s ticket challenged the incumbent administration led by Uhuru Kenyatta. The election period was highly contested and generated intense national attention.
