Career and public roles

Over several decades Chatah held senior positions in government and diplomacy and was widely regarded as a technocrat. He served as Lebanon's Ambassador to the United States from 1997 to 2000 and later became a cabinet member, taking the post of Minister of Finance from 2008 to 2009. Beyond those offices, Chatah contributed to policy debates, economic planning and public discussion as an economist and adviser.
