Arthur is a 1981 comedy movie written and directed by Steve Gordon. The movie stars Dudley Moore as Arthur Bach, a drunken New York City millionaire. Arthur is about to be married to a wealthy heiress. Instead he falls for a working class girl from Queens. It was the only movie directed by Gordon, who died in November 1982 of a heart attack. Arthur earned nearly $96 million in the US, making it the fourth highest grossing movie of 1981. The film was nominated for a total of four Academy Awards. Sir John Gielgud won an Best Supporting Actor. The theme song won Best Original Song.
It was followed by a sequel, Arthur 2: On the Rocks and a remake, Arthur.
