Juzjan (Pashto/Dari: جوزجان, DMG Ǧūzǧān, English transliteration variants: Juzjan, Jozjan, Jowzjan, Jawzjan) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the northern part of the country.

The province was created in 1958 and was called Scheberghan/Schiberghan, the provincial capital, until April 1964.

Dzhuzjan has an area of 11,798 km². The 477,000 inhabitants are mainly Uzbeks and Turkmen, mainly because of the proximity to Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. There are also a considerable number of Hazara, some Tajiks, but hardly any Pashtuns.

Besides the university town of Sheberghan (40,800 inhabitants), important cities in the province are Sang-i Charak (15,800), Aqchah (18,100), Qarqin (7,200).

The famous physician Abu Ubaid Abd al-Wahid al-Juzjani, the chronicler Minhāj ad-Dīn Jūzjānī, and the general and politician Rashid Dostum all came from the province of Juzjan.

Administration breakdown

The province of Juzjan is divided into eleven districts:

Aqchah, Darzab, Fayzabad, Khamyab, Khaniqa, Khwaja Du Koh, Mardyan, Mingajik, Qarqin, Qush Tepa and Sheberghan.
