Career and roles

Lepra's tenure in public office is most often summarized by two principal appointments. From 2005 until 2008 he served as Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, a portfolio that grouped industrial policy with the strategic sectors of energy and minerals. After stepping down from the ministry he was appointed Ambassador to France, a diplomatic post he held between 2008 and 2010. These roles reflected a transition from private-sector experience into senior government and foreign-service responsibilities.

He died in Montevideo on 4 January 2016 at the age of 73. The cause of death was reported as heart failure. His passing was noted in national media and by political peers who highlighted his contribution to government service and international representation.
