Jeuss — former municipality in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland

History and development

Like many settlements in the area, Jeuss grew from an agricultural base and developed over centuries as a local parish and farming community. Its historical identity was shaped by regional patterns of land use, church organization, and small-scale trade. Over time the village modernized its services while maintaining a village character, with changes to housing, roads and public amenities in the 20th and early 21st centuries.

Merger into Murten

On 1 January 2016 Jeuss ceased to exist as an independent municipality when it merged with several neighbouring communes to become part of Murten. The consolidation was part of a wider trend in Swiss local government to streamline administration, pool services and improve planning at a municipal level. Residents now participate in the larger municipal structure while local history and identity remain part of the village’s heritage.
