William Isaac Robinson (August 21, 1975 – March 29, 2020) was an American attorney and Democratic politician who served in the Michigan House of Representatives beginning in 2019. Robinson trained and worked as a lawyer in Michigan. During his legal career he provided counsel and representation on matters typical for local attorneys, and he was active in civic life in the communities he represented. His professional experience informed his work in the state legislature, where legal training can be an asset in drafting and evaluating bills and in understanding the implications of statutory language.

Legislative service

Robinson took office in 2019 as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives. As a state representative he served a single term before his death. During that time he participated in the routine duties of a legislator: meeting with constituents, contributing to committee work and voting on state policy. He continued the presence of his family in state government by succeeding his mother in the same seat.

Death and public response

On March 29, 2020, Robinson was taken to a Detroit hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties. He died later that day from what was reported as a suspected case of COVID-19. His death occurred during the early phase of the global pandemic in the United States and drew attention to the risks the disease posed to public officials, their staff, and frontline workers.

The loss of a sitting state representative prompted statements from colleagues and community members recalling his service and commitment to his district. His passing also underscored questions about continuity of representation in a public health emergency and contributed to public conversations about workplace safety and emergency procedures for legislative bodies.
