Ananth Kumar (22 July 1959 – 12 November 2018) was an Indian politician known for his long tenure as the representative of the Bengaluru South constituency in the Lok Sabha. A senior figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party, he served in the central government after the party's 2014 national victory and remained an influential parliamentarian until his death.

Overview and political rise

Born in Bengaluru in what was then Mysore State (now Karnataka), Kumar established himself within his party over several decades. He first won the Bengaluru South seat in the mid-1990s and retained it in successive general elections, becoming a familiar presence in the national legislature. Within the party, he rose to senior roles and was regarded as a pragmatic organizer and communicator.

Parliamentary career and responsibilities

During his years in Parliament, Kumar was involved in legislative debates, constituency development, and party strategy.
