Faisalabad Division — administrative region of Punjab, Pakistan (historic)
Historic administrative division of Punjab, Pakistan. Centered on Faisalabad, it included Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh and Jhang districts until the 2000 local-government reforms.
Overview
The Faisalabad Division was a third-tier administrative unit in the Punjab Province of Pakistan until nationwide local government reforms in 2000 removed the division level. As an intermediate layer of government it served to coordinate district administration, oversight of revenue and law-and-order functions, and regional planning. The division was part of the provincial structure inherited from the colonial era and was centered on the city of Faisalabad, a major urban and industrial hub of central Punjab.

At the time the divisional tier was abolished, Faisalabad Division comprised three districts. These were:
Administratively, a division grouped several districts to streamline coordination between district-level authorities and the provincial government, particularly for infrastructure, policing and revenue collection.Geography and economy
The territory lies in the central plains of Punjab, an intensely cultivated area that benefits from canal irrigation. The regional economy combines large-scale agriculture with significant industrial activity. Faisalabad city is widely known for its textile and manufacturing sectors and often described in economic commentary as Pakistan's leading industrial center outside the larger port cities. Surrounding districts supply agricultural produce, and smaller urban centres provide local markets and services.
History and governance changes
Divisions in Pakistan trace their origins to administrative practices established during the British period; they continued after independence as a provincial tier above districts. The 2000 reforms abolished divisions nationwide as part of a move to devolve power to district governments, transferring many divisional functions to district and provincial bodies. In subsequent years some provinces adjusted their administrative arrangements and in certain cases reintroduced divisional structures or similar coordination mechanisms for practical governance reasons.
Notable facts and cultural notes
Faisalabad is the region’s principal city and an industrial center known for its textile manufacturing and commercial role. Toba Tek Singh gives its name to a well-known short story in Urdu-language literature and functions largely as an agricultural district with growing towns. Jhang has its own local history and cultural traditions within central Punjab. For further administrative context see administrative division, the Punjab Province and Pakistan.
Although the formal divisional tier was removed in 2000, the concept remains useful for historical reference, statistical reporting and understanding how regional administration evolved in Pakistan during the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
