Political career and roles

Ahamed was one of the best-known IUML leaders at the national level. He was repeatedly elected to the Lok Sabha from Malappuram, a district in northern Kerala, and held ministerial responsibilities in the central government for a decade. Ahamed died on 1 February 2017 in a hospital in Delhi after suffering a cardiac arrest during an address by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, to the joint sitting of Parliament.
