Dami Im
Dami Im (kor. 임다미, rev. Im Dami; born 17 October 1988 in South Korea) is an Australian pop singer. She rose to fame in 2013 as the winner of the fifth season of The X Factor. She represented Australia at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, finishing second to Jamala from Ukraine with 511 points.
Biography
At the age of nine, Dami Im came with her mother and siblings from South Korea to Queensland, her father moved later. She attended music lessons from an early age, learning mainly the piano and violin. She won awards as a junior pianist several times. She completed a music degree and then worked in Brisbane as a piano and music teacher.
She first released her own album in 2010 to raise money for her church. Two more EPs followed before she applied for the casting show The X Factor in 2013. She made it to the final round of "Bootcamp" and would have actually been eliminated. As a replacement for a candidate who withdrew of his own accord, she still made it to the live shows.
She was able to enter the Australian charts with just the first two songs from her performances and quickly became a crowd favorite. Only Taylor Henderson was also able to place six songs in the top-50 of the charts during the show. In the final on the last weekend of October, Dami Im beat him to second place. She achieved platinum status in a few days with the subsequently featured winning song Alive, written by the successful songwriter/producer duo DNA Songs, and entered at the top of the charts. Also reaching number one was the Dami Im album of show songs, which was released three weeks later and also went platinum.
On 3 March 2016, she was internally selected by Australian TV station SBS to represent the country in its second ESC participation in Stockholm. Her entry, Sound of Silence, was presented on 11 March 2016.
The track Fighting for Love has been selected by the Australian Eurovision Song Contest Fan Club for the 2017 OGAE Song Contest.
