Cox Habbema (1944–2016) — Dutch film and television actress

Early life and background

Habbema was born in Amsterdam, in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. Details of her early training are less documented in general sources, but contemporary accounts describe her as part of a generation of Dutch performers who crossed borders to work in other European film industries during the Cold War era.

Career and notable work

From about 1968 through 1984 Habbema appeared in a series of films produced by DEFA, the state-owned studio of East Germany. Her filmography includes a mixture of art-house and genre pictures. She is often cited for performances in films such as To Grab the Ring (1968), the science fiction title Eolomea (1972), The Incorrigible Barbara (1977), Apprehension (1982) and the Dutch drama A Question of Silence (1982).
