Cabarrus County, North Carolina

History

Cabarrus County was established in the late 18th century and is named for an early state legislator. The county played an early role in the United States' gold rush history: the discovery of gold in the late 1700s in this area drew miners and settlers and led to a period of prospecting activity. Over the 19th and 20th centuries the county evolved from farmland and small textile villages into a mix of towns and suburbs.
