Paul McGann (born 14 November 1959) is an English actor whose career spans film, television, stage, radio and audio drama. He first attracted wide attention in the late 1980s and has since combined screen appearances with extensive work in theatre and voice performance. He is particularly well known for two high-profile roles that have defined much public recognition.

Career and notable roles

McGann's breakthrough came with the cult British film Withnail and I (1987), in which he played a sympathetic young leading man. He is also widely recognised for portraying the Eighth incarnation of the Doctor in the 1996 Doctor Who television movie, a role that extended his association with the franchise well beyond that single TV appearance.
