Early life and legal training

Kyl was born in Oakland, Nebraska, into a family with a tradition of public service: his father, John Henry Kyl, served in the U.S. House of Representatives. Jon Kyl attended the University of Arizona, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science. He went on to earn a law degree from the University of Arizona's law school, where he served as editor-in-chief of the law review.
