Overview

Eiji Aonuma (born 1963) is a Japanese video game designer and producer best known for his long association with Nintendo and his central role in The Legend of Zelda series. Over several decades he has served as a creative lead, designer and producer, becoming the public face of the franchise after its early pioneers. His work is associated with efforts to balance exploration, puzzle design and narrative while experimenting with art styles and new technologies.

Career and roles

Aonuma joined Nintendo in the late 1980s and later moved into roles that combined design, direction and production. He has collaborated closely with other senior Nintendo figures and has overseen large teams that build gameplay systems, dungeons and the visual identity for individual Zelda titles.
