Early life and entry to politics

Gillan was born in Cardiff and brought up in Wales and later England. Before entering Parliament she worked in areas related to business and public affairs and became active in Conservative politics. She was first elected at the 1992 general election, gaining a seat that she continued to hold through successive parliaments, combining national duties with attention to local concerns in her constituency.
