Playing career

Hillman broke into the NHL with the Chicago Black Hawks, where he spent multiple seasons as a depth defenseman. Over the course of his NHL tenure he also played for the New York Rangers, the Minnesota North Stars and the Philadelphia Flyers. After leaving the NHL, he continued at the major professional level with the Cleveland Crusaders of the WHA for two seasons before retiring from professional hockey.
