Victorious

This article is about a television series; for the Royal Navy ships of the same name, see HMS Victorious.

Victorious [vɪkˈtɔrˈiˈəs] is a U.S. teen sitcom that chronicles the daily lives and adventures of seven students at Hollywood Arts drama school in Los Angeles. Victorious is intended to be a funny and likeable series that authentically reflects the experiences and dreams of its target audience. The series was developed by Dan Schneider, who was previously involved in the production of iCarly, Zoey 101 and Drake & Josh.

The first episode was broadcast on 27 March 2010 by the US television station Nickelodeon. The first German-language broadcast took place on 29 August 2010 on Nickelodeon Germany. On 10 August 2012, the cancellation of the series was announced after four seasons and 60 episodes. The series finale aired in the United States on February 2, 2013.

Despite some negative reviews, the series received, among other things, two nominations for the Emmy Award for Best Children's Program. Critics especially praised the performance of the lead actress Victoria Justice. In 2013, a spin-off to Victorious and iCarly was launched with Sam & Cat, in which Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy reprised their roles from those same series.

Storyline

The series tells the story of seven students at the fictional private high school "Hollywood Arts" in Los Angeles, where, among other things, acting, dancing and singing are taught to artistically talented students. The focus is on 16-year-old Tori Vega, who, together with her friends, has to cope with everyday life at the drama school.

The plot begins on the day of a talent show held by Hollywood Arts. Tori takes the place of her sister Trina and is allowed to attend the Hollywood Arts because of her convincing performance. In the following episodes, Tori and her newfound friends plunge into funny and often bizarre adventures.

The episodes are self-contained and essentially return to the initial situation at their end. In doing so, connection errors are also accepted.

Figures

Main article: List of Victorious characters

The main characters of Victorious are seven students from Hollywood Arts High School. This group of characters consists of the protagonist Tori Vega, her friends André Harris, Robbie Shapiro, Cat Valentine, Beck Oliver as well as Tori's rival, Jade West and Trina Vega, Tori's sister. The plot of the individual episodes is mostly related to the main character, although the focus of individual stories is sometimes on other characters.

Tori Vega

Tori Vega is new to Hollywood Arts at the beginning of the series. Until now, she grew up in the shadow of her older sister Trina. She is a normal girl, sometimes a little insecure and not without faults, yet she is always there for her friends, helping with their problems and keeping the whole group together. She is intelligent, optimistic, kind and creative. Her love is music. She has a beautiful voice, however, she cannot play an instrument. Tori is of Latin American descent and can speak Spanish fluently.

André Harris

André Harris is Tori's best friend and accompanies her on almost every song. A talented songwriter and musician, he can play many instruments including guitar, keyboard and horn. He loves being on stage and takes his talent very seriously. André often helps Tori and her friends with problems. He is also creative, charming and relaxed, which makes him a welcome listener.

Robbie Shapiro

Robbie Shapiro is a shy student who lacks naturalness when interacting with his classmates, especially girls. A gifted ventriloquist, he almost always carries around his hand puppet Rex, who resembles him on the outside but seems to be completely opposite in character. In the role of Rex the puppet, which he treats like a real person, Robbie is accordingly confident. Robbie is often bullied by Jade and is often part of her jokes. For Cat, Robbie has feelings.

Jade West

Jade West is feared at Hollywood Arts because of her guile. Because of this, she makes it hard for others to like her. She also often makes fun of Robbie and Tori. She has been enemies with Tori since they first met because she assumed Tori was flirting with her boyfriend Beck. Jade and Beck, though fundamentally different, have been together for several years. However, during the third and fourth seasons, they were separated in between. Jade is a very talented actress, singer, and screenwriter. She gets along best with Cat, although the latter sometimes drives Jade almost insane. She also gets along well with André.

Caterina "Cat" Valentine

Cat Valentine is usually in a good mood, easily pleased and liked by all students. She has severe mood swings and is very sensitive. Her acting is also a bit over the top. When Cat feels attacked, she regularly responds by saying "What's that supposed to mean?!" (English What's that supposed to mean?! ). Cat has a brother who, according to her stories, often has crazy things happen to him.

Beck Oliver

Beck Oliver is one of the most talented actors in high school. A handsome, kind student, he nevertheless remains modest. He is adored by the girls, which often makes his girlfriend Jade jealous. Beck often sticks up for Tori when Jade gets on her case. He has been friends with André for a long time. Beck lives in a trailer because he no longer wants to live under his parents' roof. He is a native Canadian.

Trina Vega

Trina Vega is Tori's older sister who loves being the center of attention. She is determined to become a star, but doesn't seem to have any kind of talent. Trina is shallow and self-centered. However, in some episodes she is shown to be caring when she takes care of her sister and helps with her problems. Cat is the only one Trina gets along with reasonably well.

Other figures

Furthermore, a number of recurring supporting characters are part of the series' ensemble. Among the most important are the quirky drama teacher Erwin Sikowitz, the guidance counselor Lane Alexander and Sinjin Van Cleef, a bizarre classmate.
