Solvi Stubing (19 January 1941 – 3 July 2017) was a model, actress and television personality who became well known in Italy from the 1960s onward. Born in Berlin, she moved to Italy where her image reached a wide public through advertising and film. In a career spanning several decades she worked across popular genres and later became a familiar television host discussing cinema and film culture.
Early life and modelling
Stubing was born in Berlin and entered the public eye first as a model. Her appearance and screen presence made her a sought‑after choice for commercials and publicity work in the 1960s. A single, highly visible television commercial for Peroni beer helped establish her recognition with Italian viewers, and from that point she was frequently cast in motion pictures and television assignments.
Film career and screen persona
Throughout the late 1960s and 1970s Stubing appeared in a number of Italian and international productions. She often performed supporting roles in genre cinema — including spaghetti westerns, giallo thrillers, and popular melodramas — where producers cast foreign actresses to add glamour or an exotic element. Among the titles commonly associated with her are Heintje: A Heart Goes on a Journey (1969), Garringo (1969), Blindman (1971) and the giallo Strip Nude for Your Killer (1975). Her parts ranged from brief, memorable appearances to larger supporting characters; she was generally praised for her screen charisma rather than lead dramatic portrayals.
Television work and later career
From the 1980s into the 1990s Stubing transitioned into television presenting. She hosted a number of programs about film and cinema, bringing a first‑hand perspective on the industry and its popular forms to a general audience. Her television presence kept her in the public eye beyond her film roles and reflected a broader trend of performers moving between cinema, advertising and TV in Italy during that period.
