Smuggler's Run — issued in Japan under the name CRAZY BUMP'S ~ Kattobi Car Battle! — is a 2000 video game created by Angel Studios (the studio later became Rockstar San Diego) and released by Rockstar Games for the PlayStation 2. The title combines high-speed driving with objective-based missions set across large off-road environments.

Gameplay

Players take on smuggling runs that require transporting cargo through open terrain while avoiding law enforcement and rival drivers. The experience focuses on vehicle handling over varied surfaces and on choosing routes that balance speed with safety. Available vehicles include:

  • Trophy trucks
  • SUVs
  • Smaller cars

The game carries a T (Teen) rating. Collisions with police vehicles and wildlife are represented, but these encounters are non-lethal within the game mechanics.

Sequels, ports and re-releases

A follow-up, Smuggler's Run 2, was released for the Sony PlayStation 2 on October 30, 2001. That sequel was later adapted for the Nintendo GameCube and published under the name Smuggler's Run: Warzones on August 7, 2002. The original Smuggler's Run later qualified for Sony's Greatest Hits program after meeting the publisher's sales threshold for the Sony PlayStation 2.
