Sergio Rossi (1935–2020) — Italian luxury shoe designer

Italian footwear designer Sergio Rossi founded his eponymous luxury brand in 1951. Known for artisanal women's shoes and accessories, he was born in San Mauro Pascoli and died in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Born in San Mauro Pascoli, a town with a long shoemaking tradition, Rossi trained within that local craft environment and went on to found his own label in 1951. On 2 April 2020 he was reported to have died of COVID-19; contemporary notices recorded his passing in Cesena and cited the illness as the cause (reported cause). He was 84.

Rossi's legacy endures in the ongoing presence of his brand and in the broader appreciation for Italian shoemaking. His name remains associated with classic, wearable luxury footwear that emphasizes craft and silhouette.
