Life and wartime service

During World War II Nawrocka-Dońska joined the Polish underground Armia Krajowa (Home Army). She took part in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising where she served as a nurse, an experience that marked her generation and later informed aspects of public memory and postwar literature.
