Rabindra Prasad Adhikari (1969–2019)

Political career and background

Adhikari rose through party ranks to hold elected and ministerial offices. He was associated with the main communist parties that dominated several recent Nepali governments, and he served in the federal legislature as part of the post-monarchy democratic system. His political work focused on development, infrastructure and promotion of tourism as an economic sector.

Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation

On 16 March 2018 he was appointed Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. In that role he oversaw policies related to heritage, travel promotion and aviation regulation. His tenure coincided with efforts to expand visitor numbers and improve air connectivity in a country where mountainous terrain makes aviation a crucial service for many regions.

Death and investigations

Adhikari died on 27 February 2019 in a helicopter accident while returning from a pilgrimage site in Taplejung. The crash occurred after a visit to the Pathibhara Devi Temple and killed several other passengers.
