Geography and climate

Pueblo's setting at the edge of mountain foothills gives the city broad views and a semi-arid climate with generally sunny weather, four distinct seasons and relatively low humidity. Riverfront parks and trails along the Arkansas River are important public amenities and shape local recreation.

History and industry

Pueblo grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with rail connections and the rise of heavy industry, especially iron and steel production. Those industries gave Pueblo the enduring nickname "Steel City". Over time the economy diversified, but manufacturing, transportation and processing of regional agricultural products remained influential.
