Geography and environment

The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, forested slopes and river valleys. The region includes some of Togo's higher ground and is notable for Mount Agou and other uplands that offer cooler temperatures and greater rainfall than much of the country. These natural features support a mix of gallery forest, farmland and patches of secondary vegetation.

Settlements and administration

Atakpamé serves as the principal city and administrative center. Other towns in the region act as local market centers and service towns for surrounding villages. The regional structure groups local communes and prefectures for governance, public services and infrastructure planning.
