Origins and history

The settlement that became Piggott was originally known as Huston before adopting the name of an early resident, Dr. James Piggott. Growth in the 19th and early 20th centuries followed the pattern of many Mid-South towns: establishment of post offices and rail or road links, an agricultural hinterland, and gradual expansion of services. Piggott has preserved several historic buildings that reflect its development as a county hub.
