Pescara is an Italian city located on the Adriatic coast in the region of Abruzzo. It is the principal urban centre of its province and has a population of about 123,400 people.
Motorsport history
The town is notable in motor racing history for a long road circuit that used public roads in and around Pescara. Racing on this route began in 1924 and continued in various forms until the circuit was closed in 1961.
The only time the venue held a World Championship Formula One race was in 1957. That Pescara Grand Prix was won by a British competitor, Stirling Moss. The track was unusually long — more than 16 mi (26 km) — and remains the longest circuit ever used in a Formula One World Championship event.
