The former municipality occupied a landscape typical of the Bernese Jura: rolling hills, mixed forests and valleys that channel small rivers and streams. The setting links rural land use—pasture, farmland and woodland—with patches of village settlement and light industrial sites. Local scenery and walking routes reflect the transitional zone between the Swiss Plateau and the higher Jura ridges.
History and administrative change
Péry developed as a rural village and gradually adapted to changing economic patterns in the region, incorporating modest manufacturing and service activities alongside traditional agriculture. On 1 January 2015 the municipality of Péry merged with La Heutte to create the new municipality of Péry-La Heutte. The merger was part of a broader trend in Switzerland toward combining small communes to streamline administration and local services.
Economy and transport
The local economy historically combined farming, forestry and small industrial or artisanal enterprises typical of the Jura area, with many residents commuting to larger towns for employment. Transportation links include regional roads and connections to the Swiss public transport network, enabling access to nearby urban centers and markets.
Culture and notable facts
Péry belonged to the French-speaking community of the Bernese Jura, a culturally distinct part of a largely bilingual canton. Local life featured village associations, seasonal events and outdoor activities. Since the 2015 merger the name Péry remains in use to denote the locality and its heritage within the larger municipal structure.
