Péry-La Heutte is a municipality in the French-speaking region of the administrative district of Jura bernois within the canton of Bern. It lies in western Switzerland and was formed on 1 January 2015 when the former communes of La Heutte and Péry merged.

Geography and transport

The municipality occupies a mix of valley floor, agricultural land and wooded slopes typical of the Jura region. Its setting offers access to walking and cycling routes, and it functions as part of a network of small towns that surround the nearby urban center. Road links and regional public transport provide connections for commuters, students and visitors to larger towns in the canton.

History and administration

Péry and La Heutte each have independent local histories that stretch back through the medieval and early modern periods; industrial development in the 19th and 20th centuries shaped their growth. The 2015 merger created a single municipal council and administration responsible for local services, planning and communal facilities while preserving local identities of the two localities.

The population is largely French-speaking, reflecting the linguistic character of the Jura bernois, with speakers of German and other languages present as well. Local government emphasizes provision of schools, cultural programs and infrastructure adapted to a small, mixed urban-rural community.

Economy, culture and points of interest

The local economy combines small manufacturing, services, agriculture and businesses that serve residents and neighbouring towns. The broader Jura region is known for precision industries such as watchmaking, and many inhabitants commute to industrial and commercial centers for work. Community life includes local festivals, outdoor recreation and heritage buildings.

  • Points of interest: village centres, walking trails, community houses and preserved industrial architecture.
  • Services: primary schools, municipal offices and local shops; regional rail and bus links for further travel.
  • Recreation: hiking, cycling and seasonal outdoor activities on nearby slopes and valleys.

Péry-La Heutte balances small-town character with access to regional services; it is representative of many merged Swiss municipalities seeking administrative efficiency while retaining local heritage and community life.
