Ng Jui Ping

Military career and responsibilities

Ng had a long career as a professional officer. In senior appointments he was responsible for operational readiness, personnel development and capability planning at a time when the armed forces were expanding their training and technical capacities. As Chief of Army he oversaw land-force management and doctrine; as Chief of Defence Force he acted as the professional head of the armed services and adviser on defence matters to civilian leaders. His leadership period corresponded with continued modernization and the strengthening of joint-service cooperation.

Civilian life and public roles

After leaving uniformed service, Ng moved into business and community roles. He worked as an entrepreneur and held corporate and advisory positions in the private sector. He also took on sports administration duties, including serving as a vice-president of the Football Association of Singapore. His profile combined governance experience from defence with management responsibilities in civilian organisations.

Death and legacy

Ng Jui Ping died on 1 January 2020 at the age of 71 from pancreatic cancer. Tributes noted his contributions to Singapore’s defence establishment and his post-service involvement in business and community institutions. He is remembered for his role in professionalising the armed forces and for mentoring younger officers during a formative era.
