Morgan Francis Murphy (April 16, 1932 – March 4, 2016) was an American politician and public servant. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and later represented parts of the state in the U.S. Congress.

Congressional service

Murphy served in the United States House of Representatives from 1971 until 1981. During the first two years of his tenure he represented Illinois's 3rd congressional district (1971–1973) and after redistricting he served as the representative for Illinois's 2nd congressional district from 1973 to 1981. In the 2nd district he succeeded Abner J. Mikva.

Affiliation and later life

Murphy was affiliated with the Democratic Party during his time in office. After leaving Congress he remained active in public affairs until his death.

Death

He died in Chicago on March 4, 2016, at the age of 83. The cause was prostate cancer.
