Monible — former municipality in the Jura bernois, Canton of Bern

Geography and character

Situated in the Jura hills, Monible shared the region's mix of pasture, woodland and small-scale farmland. The village reflected the Franco‑Swiss cultural environment of Jura bernois: French as the predominant language, modest stone and timber houses, and a landscape shaped by traditional agriculture and forestry.

History and merger

Administrative reforms aimed at improving efficiency and services led to a communal consolidation. On 1 January 2015 Monible merged with neighboring communes to create the new municipality of Petit-Val. The other municipalities involved were Châtelat, Sornetan and Souboz, forming a single municipal entity.

Like many small villages in the Jura bernois, Monible's local economy centered on agriculture, forestry and small trades, with some residents commuting to larger towns for employment.
