Millard County, Utah

Geography and landscape

Millard County occupies a portion of central-western Utah and includes dry basins, the Pahvant Range foothills and pockets of higher forested terrain. The county is characterized by open sagebrush plains and irrigated farmland where water permits, and by limited stands of conifer forest at higher elevations. Major transportation routes, including Interstate 15, cross the county and connect its towns to regional centers.

History and development

Organized in the mid-19th century, the county and its seat were named for President Millard Fillmore. Fillmore briefly served as the territorial capital and retains a Territorial Statehouse Museum that interprets early settlement and government for visitors. Over time, settlement shifted toward agricultural communities and service centers that support farming, ranching and natural-resource activities.

The county contains several small towns and unincorporated places. Notable communities include:
