Mehrdad Oladi (Persian: مهرداد اولادی; May 25, 1985 – April 19, 2016) was an Iranian professional footballer who played primarily as a striker. He spent the most prominent years of his career with Malavan in the Iran Pro League and also had a short spell with Esteghlal. Oladi gained recognition in domestic competitions for his goal-scoring contributions and for helping Malavan reach the later stages of the Hazfi Cup.

Club career and chronology

Oladi's club career is most closely associated with Malavan, where he arrived in the summer of 2009 and formed an effective attacking partnership with teammates such as Pejman Nouri. During his time at Malavan he experienced a career high in which the club reached the final of the national cup competition and he emerged as a key offensive player. He signed for Esteghlal on 11 November 2013 on a one-and-a-half-year contract, but was released the following June and returned to Malavan. Across those seasons he competed in Iran's top division, commonly referred to as the Iran Pro League, and in the Hazfi Cup, the country’s main knockout tournament.

Playing style and role

Oladi was deployed mainly as a centre-forward. Observers and reports described him as a forward with a strong instinct for goal: he operated on the last line of defense, looked to exploit spaces in the penalty area and capitalized on service from midfield. Like many strikers in the Iranian league, his role combined finishing ability with movement to create opportunities for himself and team-mates.

Statistics and notable achievements

Oladi's most productive season for Malavan came in 2010–11, when he finished as the club's top scorer with 15 league goals. In the Hazfi Cup competitions noted during his tenure, he scored five goals in four matches, contributing to Malavan's run to the final. These figures underline his importance to the club during that period and mark him out among the more influential domestic scorers of those seasons.
