Geography

Lunda Sul lies in eastern Angola and is part of the larger Lunda region. The province features a mix of savanna and woodland landscapes and is crossed by rivers and seasonal streams. Its position in the interior of the country means much of the province is rural, with settlements concentrated around a few towns and transport routes.

Economy

Mining, particularly of diamonds, is the most visible economic activity in the province and has been central to its development and to patterns of settlement. Agriculture and local trade also contribute to livelihoods, especially outside the mining areas.

Administration and settlement

Saurimo serves as the provincial capital and administrative hub. The province is subdivided into municipalities and communes for local governance; services and infrastructure are mostly concentrated near the main towns.
